What would bring a group of AlgerianAmericans to Falls Church at 8:00am on a Saturday? Soccer of course!
Close to 50 members of the Algerian American community gathered this morning at Babylon Futbol Cafe in Falls Church to witness another victory of the Algerian national team in their quest to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The ambiance was electrifying after Algeria scored each goal for a 2-0 final score. Most people were wearing the colors of the Algerian team: green and white jerseys. In addition to the very loud cheers, screaming and dancing, you could clearly hear youyous from ladies in attendance. At the conclusion of the game, the crowd spontanously started dancing and singing to the tune of Algerian music. This was a great experience.
Algeria is now in the lead in Group C with 7pts. with 3 games left to play with the two next ones on a home field in Algeria. The next Game will be on Sunday, Sept 6, 2009 against Rwanda. Watch this website for more details on where to watch the game as a group.
A special thank you to Kader Brahimi and Mounir Belfiroud for convincing the owner of Babylon Futbol Cafe to open his establishment this early on a Saturday.
