Thank you to the more than 110 younger and older Algerian-Americans who joined us for our spring picnic celebration on Sunday May 31, 2009.
After several days of rain, the weather agreed to cooperate and gave us a nice break.
The main attraction, beyond the getting together and chatting, was the barbecued chicken and lamb merguez. We had barely enough to meet the demand. Not to forget the numerous salads, side-dishes, and desserts brought by members.
The children had a blast taking advantage of the open space at the park and the close-by playgrounds. The popsicles and the cupcakes provided the necessary energy. The ice cream cones were a special treat for our children and even grown-ups did enjoy them.
It was good to see some regular and familiar faces, as well as some new faces.
Events like this one require careful attention to detail and many hours from the organizers. The board is committed to organizing at least 4 events per year. Each event costs the association about $500 to cover mailing the fliers, renting the venue and the food and drinks. We need your continued financial support so we can continue to organize these events and beyond. As you probably already know, the association revenues come exclusively from membership dues and donations.
If you have not yet renewed your membership for 2009, now is the time to do it. We still have a number of events scheduled for the rest of 2009: Eid El Fitr, Eid El Adha; and more are in the works.
